Seeking for 2022-2023 Youth Workforce Vendors

  • Career pathways can offer an efficient and customer-centered approach to training and education by connecting the necessary adult basic education, occupational training, postsecondary education, career and academic advising, and supportive services for students to prepare for, obtain, and progress in a career.

The Newark Youth One-Stop Career Center is looking to partner with local vendors who provide innovative year-round programming. Additionally, we are looking for programs that offer opportunities to learn about careers and career pathways, set short & long term goals, and provide the opportunity to work on individual or group projects. Particular industries that we are looking to engage with but is not limited to: Technology, Fashion & Design, Construction, Transportation & Logistics, Health Care & Green Energy.

  • During SYEP, youth receive a minimum of 35 hours of work readiness training with a partnering workforce and youth development professional or organization prior to their hands-on work experience.

This is included in the 200 total program hours for the eight-week summer program. Topics covered include selfawareness, resume-building, interviewing skills, work ethic, self-management, interpersonal skills, technical skills, transferable workplace “power skills,” entrepreneurial skills, networking, diversity training, and prevention of workplace harassment training. The program’s tiered approach has been framed to build increasing mastery of skills from year to year and increase exposure to work responsibilities up the ladder of a career pathway identified by the young person.

  • Eligible youth open their first non-custodial bank account; are encouraged to utilize direct deposit; and receive financial literacy training and ongoing coaching on savings, budgeting, credit scores, etc. via a peer Young Money Manager. Upon program start, they will complete an America's Saves Pledge - a campaign managed by the Nonprofit Consumer Federation of America that supports low- to moderate income households to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth; starting with motivating young workers to use direct deposit.

Throughout the summer program, youth will complete financial literacy modules using the MyPath and LRNG learning platforms. MyPath is a non-profit organization that offers a training curriculum for youth and works with financial institutions to advise them on how to create financial products that benefit low-income families and youth. LRNG is an online learning management system, which provides work readiness and financial literacy curriculum modules, tracks learning outcomes through a competency "badge" system, and houses youth's digital career portfolio and planning tools. Participating youth will receive 7.5 hours of financial literacy training during their first week, followed by 1-hour weekly seminars for the remaining 7 weeks, for a total of 13.5 hours; forming part of the total 35 hours of work readiness training.
